The Ocean Course Tournament and Hammock Beach's Eight-Day Atlantic Grille Closure

"We're proud of what we've built and excited for the opportunity to continue growing at Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa," Jim Furyk said when tournament officials confirmed his event was leaving Jacksonville for the Ocean Course, as reported by Observer Local News. That was the announcement version of the story: golf's move, tickets, a new home. The neighborhood version is a little different, and it starts with a dinner reservation.

Anyone who checks Hammock Beach's dining page this fall will notice something odd next to Atlantic Grille's listing. The oceanfront restaurant, the resort's flagship spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, is closed October 4 through 11 for a private event. The Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS tournament runs October 9 to 11, overlapping the closure dates. The closure begins five days before the three-day tournament, though the dining listing does not identify the private event.

A Weekend Ticket, A Longer Closure

The public-facing tournament, the one with tee times and a leaderboard, is genuinely a Friday-through-Sunday event. Grounds tickets, Club 58 hospitality, the full field, all of it runs October 9 through 11. But a PGA Tour Champions stop does not appear on a Wednesday morning. Courses get set to tournament spec, television and scoring infrastructure goes up, players arrive for practice rounds, and hospitality tents get built days before a single shot counts. The Atlantic Grille closure dates overlap the tournament period, including its lead-up. For residents, the resort's closure schedule spans more days than the public tournament.

This is the tournament's sixth year, but its first at Hammock Beach. For five seasons it played at Timuquana Country Club in Jacksonville, where it built a reputation strong enough that PGA Tour Champions players voted it their favorite event on tour in 2025. The move to the Ocean Course is a multi-year agreement, with Jim Furyk saying at a media day that Hammock Beach will host "for the next two years and possibly longer." A tournament that already had its own identity is now building a new one on a course with six holes running along the Atlantic, more ocean-facing holes than any other course in Florida.

Where the Cars Actually Go

The detail that will matter most to anyone who lives nearby has nothing to do with golf. All spectator parking for the tournament is complimentary and routed through Daytona State College's Palm Coast campus on Palm Coast Parkway SE, several miles from the resort itself. Lots open at 10 a.m., a shuttle takes about ten minutes, and it drops fans at the tournament's main gate, which opens at 10:30. There is a separate rideshare drop-off on site, plus golf cart and bicycle parking for anyone arriving that way. In other words, the tournament planned around the neighborhood's streets rather than through them. Anyone expecting a weekend of spectator traffic circling the resort looking for a spot will not find much reason to, because that traffic has already been diverted to a parking lot three miles away before it ever reaches Hammock Beach.

What's Actually New This Year

The tournament arrives with a build that reads more like a small festival than a golf event bolted onto a resort. The Boardwalk, a new structure next to the 18th green, anchors most of it: the Baptist Health Family Lounge sits inside it, and on Friday, October 9, it becomes a concert venue when country artist Billy Currington headlines the Furyk Foundation Concert at 7 p.m. Concert admission comes included with any Friday ticket, general admission included.

Elsewhere on the grounds:

  • The Circle K ParTee Porch, positioned at the par-3 17th hole, with $2 Birdie Beers and shaded seating
  • A dedicated Practice Facility presented by Bird Golf Academy, where fans can watch players warm up before their rounds
  • The VyStar Patriots Outpost and a Kids Zone for younger spectators
  • Constellation Power Putt, one of several interactive fan games spread across the course

The field itself carries real weight for a tournament in its debut year at a new venue. The 78-player lineup includes major champions Stewart Cink, Bernhard Langer, Darren Clarke, Davis Love, Vijay Singh, and John Daly, competing for a $2.2 million purse. It is the kind of roster that would normally require a trip to a much bigger market to see in person, arriving instead at a course most of the neighborhood already walks, plays, or drives past without thinking twice.

The tournament's charitable footprint is the part that tends to get lost under the golf coverage. Through its first five years, FURYK & FRIENDS raised more than $5.45 million for Northeast Florida charities through the Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation, whose Family Links program has helped connect families with health insurance, housing, clothing, and food assistance, distributing more than 500 emergency food bags along the way. The tournament's move to Hammock Beach extends that fundraising base into Flagler County for the first time.

The Calendar Was Already Building Toward This

The tournament did not appear on an empty fall calendar. It landed at the end of a stretch that has kept Hammock Beach's event lawns busy since early September. The resort held its 6th Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on September 11 at 8:15 a.m. on the Grand Event Lawn, a tribute climb done in remembrance of the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 8 EMS personnel who died that day. A week later, on September 19, the resort ran its 4th Annual Food and Wine Classic, a 5 to 9 p.m. event with more than 90 wines, a Craft Beer Garden serving pretzels and sausages, and food stations built around Executive Chef Patrick O'Connor's menu, including a Hanging Pork Rib Roast with apple chutney, Paella Skewers, and an Argentine Red Shrimp with Boursin Polenta at the Atlantic Grille's station, alongside a Tuna Poke Roll and Roasted Salmon Roll from Stix Authentic Sushi Bar. Tickets ran $175 per person, the event was 21 and up, and a separate Kids Mocktail and Craft Experience covered guests ages 4 to 12.

Neither of those events required an Atlantic Grille closure or a shuttle lot three miles down Palm Coast Parkway. They are proof that Hammock Beach's fall calendar has been unusually full even before the tournament arrives, not unusually empty otherwise. What changes in the second week of October is scale. A memorial climb and a wine tasting are neighborhood-sized events. A PGA Tour Champions field with a national broadcast, a headlining concert, and a $2.2 million purse is not. The resort's dining schedule separately lists an eight-day Atlantic Grille closure for a private event, without identifying that event.

For anyone who lives around Hammock Beach and has wondered about Atlantic Grille's October hours, the dining schedule lists a closure from October 4 through 11. The tournament's public competition runs October 9 through 11, so the two schedules cover different spans.
